The name Nehemia stems from the biblical personality Nehemiah, who was a leader in Israel after the people's return from the Babylonian exile. He lived about 450 BC and helped to rebuild his country with practical work as well as through spiritual and social reforms.

1991

The German relief organization "Nehemia Christian Aid Ministries" sent its first truck with humanitarian aid to Albania, which was welcomed by the Albanian Minister of Health as the first transport of that kind in the country ever.

1992

Since spring 1992, missionaries and co-workers from Nehemia have been continuously working in the country. In Pogradec, in addition to church planting projects and spiritual ministry, a variety of projects developed: A soup kitchen, dental clinic, bakery, bible school, clinic, carpentry, car-repair shop etc. The Nehemia center was established in Pogradec, while branches have been set up in Durres and Gjirokaster.

1997

During the unrests in March 1997 all the buildings and projects in Pogradec were looted and destroyed. In spite of personal danger the missionaries stayed in country and immediately started to rebuild. Many social activities and new projects have been founded since then.

1998

In June 1998 we celebrated the inauguration of the new Nehemia center in Pogradec. In the same time begins the Nehemia private school with four classes.

1999

From March until July 1999 Nehemia, in cooperation with other mission organizations, organized shelter and care for thousands of refugees from Kosova.

We bought two new buildings in Durres, which serve as a base for the Nehemia work there. In Bucimas, close to Pogradec we bought a house and building land, the location of the new Nehemia center.
