More than 100 years ago, the Albanian Evangelical Alliance (VUSH) was founded in Korca, not far from Pogradec. Protestant Christians have been living in Albania since then. During the time of communism, however, every form of religion and faith was extinguished, every church or mosque closed or destroyed. Prayer, baptism or just reading the Bible brought severe punishment like imprisonment or even death. The result today: Self-destruction (like in the unrests of 1997), poverty, social indifference, corruption and egoism paralyze the country.
